The Celtics discussed with Schroeder, but he still wanted a long-term agreement: report

In this offseason, Dennis Schroeder may be close to joining the team next season for the first time. According to reports, the Boston Celtics are discussing a possible deal with the German defender, but there seems to be an obstacle that will arouse new criticism.

According to Jake Fischer Stand report, Boston and Schroder are negotiating a potential deal. However, it was reported that the two parties put aside the discussion because they were unable to reach an agreement on the contract requirements.

NBA insiders say that Boston is only interested in signing Schroder on a short-term contract, and one year is the ideal contract period. Keith Smith Report, citing unnamed sources. However, according to reporters, the German player is seeking more money and a longer contract than the Celtics can provide.

The Celtics are hesitant to reach a long-term commitment with Schroeder as they try to retain their cap space next season. If he is available after the upcoming NBA season, Boston seems to be planning to try to chase Bradley Beal of the Washington Wizards.

Therefore, Schroeder may be more like a temporary stop next season. If he performs well and adapts, Boston may also change his stance and offer him a new contract-perhaps closer to the dream contract he is looking for.

The Lakers still have Schroder’s bird rights, CBS Sports Report. They can choose to exceed the upper limit and recall the 27-year-old defender.

But with the addition of new faces led by Russell Westbrook during the offseason, the chance of seeing Schroder put on the Lakers uniform has gone from low to nothing.

The Celtics are the only team mentioned so far interested in Schroder, which makes sense. Boston now has Marcus Smart and Josh Richardson, but they both seem to be more suitable for shooting guard positions.

If the trade fails, Schroeder can fill the position of point guard well. If not now, this may be his chance to prove to Boston and other teams that he deserves the salary.

The 6-foot-3 guard is seeking a long-term contract that will bring him at least $25 million in income each year. The Lakers offered him a four-year, $84 million contract extension, but Schroeder reportedly thought he could get more in the free agency market-something that has never happened before.
