A former police officer was arrested on the Labor Day weekend. He allegedly stole nearly $50,000 from the department’s union, including a fund set up to help an injured policeman.

Allegedly, Kewitt opened a second account to pay for the medical expenses of an injured police officer with funds obtained from donations and fundraising activities. After paying for medical expenses, the police officer will receive nearly $20,000, but investigators believe that Kevin had spent the money on himself. Between these two accounts, an estimated $50,000 was stolen.

When faced with questions from CPD officials about bank accounts, Kewitt was described as defensive and complained that he did not help manage the accounts. According to FDLE, at another meeting, Cavite allegedly claimed that all transactions were authorized, but stated that he did not keep any receipts.

On Saturday, investigators arrested Kewitt and imprisoned him in Lake County Jail. According to the Orlando Sentinel, Cavite was released on bail of $10,000.
