An expert said that the more contagious Delta variant of the coronavirus is like last year’s “Covid-19 on steroids”.
“We should consider the Delta variant as the 2020 version of Covid-19 steroids,” said Andy Slavitt, a former senior adviser to President Joe Biden’s Coronavirus Response Team. Told CNN in an interview on Wednesday.
Slavitt said that the Delta variant was first discovered in India and spread rapidly in the United States. It is “twice” as infectious as the original strain of the coronavirus.
“Fortunately, unlike in 2020, we actually have a tool to stop the development of the Delta variant: it is called a vaccine,” Slavitt said.
