A fire engulfed an 18-story apartment building on the outskirts of Milan, and smoke filled the city.

Dozens of people have been evacuated from the tower, but in the early stages, no casualties have been reported.

At 5:30 pm on Sunday afternoon, firefighters rushed into the skyscraper and knocked on the residents.

According to reports, after a fire broke out on the 15th floor, fragments can be seen falling from the cladding of the Via Antonini residential tower in the horrible video clip.

“We were told that the panels covering the building were fireproof, on the contrary, they burned quickly like butter,” a resident told the local newspaper Corriere.

“Currently we have no reports of victims or injuries,” said Mayor Giuseppe Sala.

“About 20 people went out without a problem. Now, firefighters are opening doors from house to house to see if anyone is left inside.

“We are positive about the fact that we have time to leave, but we cannot be sure until the inspection is complete.”

He was full of praise for rescuers: “I saw firefighters with burned hands. They are doing commendable work as always.”

Approximately 20 people returned to 70 families after escaping the neighborhood and were treated for smoke inhalation.
