The Imperial Pavilion: A wonderful lunch at the Renaissance Mumbai Hotel

As the name suggests, the Emperors Court restaurant offers a fine dining experience, most of the tables overlook the Houtau Lake.

Emperor’s Court, the Oriental specialty restaurant of the Renaissance Hotel, invites you to a romantic trip to Mumbai. Especially if you come during lunch time! During my stay at the Renaissance Mumbai Hotel, I was lucky. Not only did I have the opportunity to immerse myself in the food-loving culture, but I also had the opportunity to interact with Chef Cham Hun, who demonstrated the evolving Asian culinary consistency on his plate.

As the name suggests, the Emperor’s Court restaurant offers a fine dining experience, most of the tables overlook the Houtau Lake. The breathtaking scenery left me speechless throughout my stay. Multiple rounds of dry martinis, prompt service, delicious dishes and “very” friendly staff complete the experience.

Chef Cham Hun chose to introduce me a variety of carefully cooked oriental flavors. The three-course set meal starts with hot and sour chicken soup, which has a balanced spiciness and sourness.

Court appetizers

Crispy lotus root, shrimp salt and pepper, Chongqing chicken and edamame (Chinese classic dumplings) are a series of delicious appetizers. The crispy lotus root is amazing-wonderful caramel crunch with toasted sesame seeds!

Royal Court Mumbai Main Dish

The main course is also a big explosion of flavor! The set menu gave me a whim and was a huge blow to me. Only when you are confident in this process can you taste unprecedented flavors. The main dishes are chili scallops, kung pao chicken, green vegetables and other delicacies, accompanied by simple Yangzhou fried rice and fried noodles, with various sauces. The irresistible “Kung Pao” chicken is cooked until crisp and juicy, while the chilli scallop adds a new flavor to the classic menu. Overall, each meal is creative, modern, and showcases an amazing blend of Asian culinary traditions.

Fried Ice Cream Renaissance Mumbai

If you skip the rest of the menu, you will be so-so. In all respects, this is the whirlwind of Asian cuisine. However, what surprised me was the dessert of the third course! The obvious winner is this gorgeous traditional fried ice cream covered with dark chocolate. In order to stimulate the tongue, this rich delicacy combines a variety of ingredients and the superb oratory skills of Chef Cham Hun.

Expect a lot of interesting textures, they will also appeal to modernists and traditionalists. In addition, dining in the Royal Garden means that the chef Ham Sun and the kitchen will spare no effort to cook your favorite meals using only unique local ingredients. That’s why this is the best oriental restaurant in Mumbai and my personal favorite.
