Cat Binks living on the ninth floor South Florida apartment complex Officials said on Friday that the ship that collapsed last month had been found safe and returned to his family.
Gina Nicole Vlasek, co-founder of The Kitty Campus, posted on Facebook that a black cat that looked like a Binx was found near the ruins of the Surfside building on Thursday night and was taken to the organization’s facility near Miami Beach. Vlasek said a former Champlain Tanan resident visited the Katy campus on Friday and confirmed that the cat is hers.
“We are very grateful to be able to help in any small way,” Vlasek wrote.
Levine Cava said at a press conference on Friday night that Binx was recognized by a volunteer who had been feeding cats near the collapsed building.
Levin Kava said: “I am very happy that this little miracle can bring some light to the life of a sad family today, and can provide a bright spot for our entire community in this terrible tragedy.”
The mayor said that animal control staff are continuing to set up live traps in the area, hoping to retrieve pets that may escape a fatal collapse.
The 12-story building collapsed in the early morning of June 24. Officials confirmed that 79 people were killed, of which 61 were unaccounted for.
