The missing Chinese tennis star Peng Shuai said that she has been “safe and safe” for three weeks after she recently filed sexual assault charges against a Chinese government official.
Judging from the statements, photos and videos provided, some people do not fully believe in her health.
The International Olympic Committee said in a statement statement On Sunday, President Thomas Bach had a 30-minute conversation with Shuai during a video call.
“Peng Shuai thanked the International Olympic Committee for caring about her health. She explained that she is safe and sound and lives in her home in Beijing, but at this time she wants privacy to be respected. This is why she now prefers to spend time with friends and family. Nevertheless, she will continue to participate in tennis, the sport she likes very much,” the IOC statement read.
The statement also included a photo of Bach and Shuai in a video call and Peng smiling.
“I’m relieved to see that Peng Shuai is having a good time. This is what we care about the most. She seemed very relaxed. I provided her with our support and kept in touch with her at any time convenient for her. She was obviously about this. Thank you,” said Emma Tejo, chairman of the IOC Athletes Committee, in a statement.
Peng’s disappearance from the public for three weeks has aroused great concern for her health in the international community. Other sports stars and governments have called on China to prove that she is safe.
After the statement, many other photos and videos of Peng were posted on Twitter and the “WeChat page” of the tennis tournament.
A spokesperson for the Women’s Tennis Association told Reuters Videos and photos were “not enough” to prove her safety and did not completely solve the problem.
This prompted the French Foreign Minister to call on the Chinese authorities to provide more proof of her happiness.
“I only expect one thing: she can talk,” France’s Jean-Yves Le Drian told LCI TV.
