An official said on Monday that the interim prime minister of Haiti, Claude Joseph (Claude Joseph) will run the country after the assassination of President Jovenel Moise. He will step down and form a new government. Ariel Henry served as prime minister.
The government official who is close to the prime minister’s office said that the new government will have no president and will organize new elections “as soon as possible.”
In the early morning of July 7, before the president was shot dead at his home in Port-au-Prince, Moise appointed Henry to succeed Joseph as prime minister.
But within a few hours after the assassination, Joseph declared that he had entered a “siege state” and stated that he was responsible for launching a power struggle in this violent and impoverished Caribbean country.
Haiti did not have a functioning parliament, nor did it have a viable succession procedure, and was already in a political and security crisis when Moise was killed.
The official said: “In the past few days, Claude Joseph and Ariel Henry have held many working meetings, which will lead to the formation of an inclusive government with Ariel Henry as prime minister.”

The official said Joseph will serve as Minister of Foreign Affairs in the new government that will take office on Tuesday.
The official added:
There will be no President of the Republic. The mission of the new government is to organize elections as soon as possible.
After the 2018 legislative elections were postponed due to controversy, Moys passed a decree to rule Haiti, the poorest country in the Americas, including when his own term ends.
In addition to the presidential, legislative and local elections, Haiti was originally scheduled to hold a constitutional referendum in September, which was postponed twice due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The official did not give a timetable for when the new elections will be held on Monday.
