A plane with 28 people on board was missing Russian Local officials said that on Tuesday, Kamchatka’s Far East.
Local emergency officials said that an Antonov An-26 plane carrying 22 passengers and 6 crew members flew from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky to the town of Parana and missed the scheduled communication . The plane also disappeared from the radar of the local Ministry of Transportation.
This aircraft belongs to a company called Kamchatka Aviation Enterprise. According to the Russian state news agency TASS, the aircraft has been in operation since 1982. The company’s director Alexei Khabarov told Interfax News that the aircraft was technically sound.
The investigation has been launched and the search task is in progress. Local officials said that two helicopters and one plane had been deployed to check the route of the missing aircraft.
When the aircraft lost contact about 10 kilometers (6 miles) from Parana Airport, the aircraft was preparing to land. The Kamchatka government spokesperson said that Olga Mokhireva, the head of the local government of Parana, was on the plane.
In 2012, an Antonov An-28 aircraft of Kamchatka Aviation Company crashed on a mountain while landing from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky to Parana. There were 14 people on board, 10 of whom were killed. According to TASS, the two pilots who died were found to contain alcohol in their blood.
