Students who go to the toilet are rewarded with 10 units of digital currency Ggool every day. Ggool means honey in Korean. You can buy bananas, stationery and instant noodles in the campus market. Reuters reported.
The toilet was created as “Bivi”, The abbreviated version of “Toilet, like a visionary bee”, aims to be an environmentally friendly and sustainable device.
BeeVi uses vacuum and a small amount of water to transport manure from the toilet to the underground tank and bioreactor, which prompted its creators to call it “Super water-saving vacuum toilet.”
According to Reuters, the methane in the feces is converted into power for electrical appliances in the building, including gas stoves, hot water boilers and fuel cells for power generation.
One of the designers of the toilet, Cho Jae-weon, a professor of urban and environmental engineering, told the news agency that ordinary people can power a car three-quarters of a mile in a day.
“If we use it out of the box, manure is valuable for energy and manure production,” Cho said.
A graduate student buying goods at the Ggool market told Reuters that he now regards poop as a “treasure” because of the new toilet.
He said: “I even talk about feces during meals to consider buying any book I want.”
