TikTok and GIPHY are collaborating on a new editing tool that allows users to quickly grab clips from a vast library of short videos.
TikTok Library is the name of the new in-app tool, a marked departure from the previous GIPHY integration.
This integration is the first to utilize GIPHY’s video library (also known as GIF with sound).
TikTok said in the announcement:
“Today, as we begin rolling out the library, we’re introducing the latest addition to our creative toolkit, a new in-app creation tool featuring content from GIPHY that provides access to a wide range of content, Opens up more creative possibilities.
Library has also unlocked a new category of entertainment content where people can easily start or participate in their own trends by seamlessly integrating clips of their favorite shows, GIFs, memes, and more into their TikTok videos. “
GIPHY’s other integrations with TikTok — via green screens and stickers — allow users to place GIFs on top of or behind what they record.
The TikTok library is different in that it allows users to edit popular video clips into their original content.
The GIPHY integration in the TikTok library features high-quality, recognizable clips from a roster of verified partners including HBO, ABC, Hulu, and more.
GIPHY’s announcement explains how the new feature fits into the TikTok ecosystem:
“Like Duets and Stitch or the latest pop sounds, TikTok’s library of content is designed to be adapted into engaging and creative videos. It unlocks a new category of entertaining content for users to comment on, discuss or parody, and allows for more Creators get involved or start their own trends. We think GIPHY Clips will bring a whole new dimension of entertainment to the TikTok ecosystem.”
How to use GIPHY clips in TikTok
Follow the steps below to access the new TikTok library features:
- On the camera screen, tap the new library icon on the vertical sidebar.
- Once in the library screen, you can quickly select popular content or use the search bar to find specific content.
- Trim the selected clip to the desired length and return to the shooting page to continue creating your video.
GIPHY is the first partner to integrate with the TikTok Library. GIPHY Clips available at launch include:
- reaction: Relevant content that captures the original emotional response.
- quotation marks: Memorable phrases from recognizable people.
- people: Clips of famous actors, athletes and public figures.
- iconic moment: Such as speeches, movie scenes, sports highlights, etc.
The TikTok library begins rolling out on Android this week and on iOS next week.
The library will eventually expand to include more content sources, audio and sounds, text templates, user-generated content, and more.
