Vatican City-On Thursday, Pope Francis asked Catholics in Scotland to pray for the success of the UN Climate Change (COP26) Conference in Glasgow, because “time is running out” to save the planet.
Francis said in his letter that he regretted not being able to attend the opening ceremony of the meeting as he had hoped, but he asked everyone to pray together in order to achieve fruitful results.
In a letter issued by the Vatican, he said:
The purpose of this gathering is to solve one of the major moral issues of our time: to protect God’s creations as the garden to be cultivated and the common home of our human family.
He begged the participants for “wisdom and strength” to let them remember future generations.
“Time is running out; this opportunity must not be wasted lest we have to face God’s judgment because we have failed to be faithful stewards of the world he entrusted us to take care of,” he said.
Francis previously stated that the dual trauma caused by the Covid-19 pandemic and climate change is comparable to the trauma caused by global conflict and should be faced in the same way.
