Today’s show challenges self-reliant entrepreneurs to think about the lessons they can learn from the high-income private equity business, especially regarding structured forward planning and accounting. But it also covers what private equity firms can learn from the other side of the track.
This week’s guest is Jason Long, a valued member of the DC community. He’s been known to share the highs and lows of his long-term experience starting an agency, building a software-as-a-service business, and most recently accepting the job of a “turnover CEO” of a private equity group.
He talks to Dan about why the devastating impact of the 2008 financial crisis on his agency led him to diversify his portfolio, and the pros and cons of that decision. Plus, why working with millions of private equity firms enhances his experience as a leader and entrepreneur:
“It’s a team from CEO to CEO, leader to leader, and they fail them again and again…so when I came in, I said, ‘I’m not going to fire anyone’. . I introduced a lot of ways to ensure transparency from the top all the way down to the frontline staff.. So everyone felt like they knew where the company was going. I felt it had a huge impact on trust”.
