HTTPArchive has released its latest ranking of the best performing content management systems (CMS). We reviewed the rankings of six popular CMSs and found that the best performing CMSs outperformed their competitors by huge margins.
We continue to review data related to U.S. geographic regions as before.
The global data differs slightly from the US data, but does not change the ranking position of any CMS under review.
How to Determine Core Web Vitals CMS Rank
this HTTPArchive uses two datasets To achieve the core web vitality ranking of all content management systems.
The datasets used by HTTPArchive are:
- CRuX dataset
- laboratory dataset
CRuX dataset
The CRuX dataset is derived from actual website visits by real people who choose to anonymize to allow Core Web Vitals data to be collected from the websites they visit.
laboratory dataset
The lab dataset comes from crawlers that collect data from millions of websites. Lab data simulates mobile devices and mobile connections for ranking scores.
These two datasets were used to determine the core Web Vitals scores for all CMSs and published for review.
#1 Core Web Vitals Winner: Duda
Duda is a professional website building platform that allows enterprises to go online quickly without considering the underlying technology.
The goal is to allow customers to focus on their business, while Duda takes care of the technology. This is an approach shared by other companies like Wix and Squarespace.
Of the three website builder platforms, Duda continues to lead the pack.
Last time we looked at the HTTPArchive technical report data, Duda was way ahead.
This trend continues in the latest performance figures released in February 2022.
The percentage of sites built with Duda with good core Web Vitals performance is a staggering 77.3%.
Back in October 2021, the percentage of well-performing sites was 69.3%.
Duda’s performance benchmark improved by 8%.
The comparison of the three website building platforms in this review is as follows:

Not only is Duda ahead of the competition, but it surpasses them by a very large margin.
Website builder No. 2 competitor Wix trails Duda by more than 23 percentage points.
In a way, that’s not surprising, since the last time we spoke to Duda, they said site performance was a big goal for them.
They shared a data-driven approach to identifying areas for improvement, then rolling out updates to client websites so they can enjoy better, faster performance.
A Duda spokesperson shared:
“Using this data-driven approach, we were able to identify opportunities for improvement.
We implemented these improvements and double-checked them with our BI tools.
This is a successful iterative approach that helps us improve our scores over time. “
#2 Core Web Vitals Champion: Drupal
The second CWV champion was the open source CMS Drupal, surpassing the previous second place held by Wix.
In past surveys, the percentage of Drupal sites with a good Core Web Vitals score was 50.2%.
This year Drupal outpaced Wix with a score of 58.2%, and Wix trailed by four percentage points with a score of 54.0%.
#3 Core Web Vitals Winner: Wix
This time, instead of improving performance, the percentage of sites passing through Core Web Vitals actually dropped.
This caused Wix to drop from No. 2 to trailing Wix in No. 3.
In the last survey, 55.3% of websites built with Wix passed Wix performance on their core web vitals scores.
Wix’s performance actually dropped to 54.0% this year.
#4 Core Web Vitals Winner: Squarespace
Squarespace has grown by leaps and bounds with a strong increase in the performance of its platform.
In a previous survey, Squarespace ranked 31.45% of sites that passed CWV. This time 42.84% of Squarespace sites passed the CWV score.
#5 Core Web Vitals Champion: WordPress
WordPress remained at No. 5, the same position it held in October.
WordPress performance increased from 31% to a staggering 37.4%.
This is a significant improvement and likely reflects the great work of the WordPress performance team, which is working within WordPress to improve WordPress execution speed.
The WordPress performance team recently released an experimental performance plugin as part of their attempt at performance improvements before going into the main WordPress core.
There may be more improvements in the next version of WordPress.
#6 Core Web Vitals Winner: Joomla
Last time we looked into HTTPArchive results, Joomla didn’t make the rankings.
According to HTTPArchive, Joomla had a score of 30.5% in September 2021 (the date the results were reported in October).
This time, Joomla is directly behind WordPress with a score of 35%, just two percentage points behind WordPress.

Duda was voted the #1 CMS by Core Web Vitals Performance in October, and it has continued to hold the top spot by continuing to focus on improving its core Web Vitals score, resulting in significantly improved profit margins.

Duda’s score of 77.3% is more than double that of fifth-place WordPress, which is currently the most popular CMS in the world.
Obviously, if web performance is important to a business, there are other CMS options besides WordPress.
But don’t leave WordPress out because their performance team is catching up fast.
