The United Arab Emirates will open tourist visa applications to anyone who has received a vaccine approved by the World Health Organization, which may boost the country’s main tourism industry.
The decision applies to citizens of all countries, including those from previously banned countries, the state-run WAM reported on Saturday night. The news agency said the move was part of the country’s strategy to support “national efforts to achieve sustainable recovery and economic growth”.
The new regulations will take effect on August 30. According to WAM, passengers arriving on tourist visas must register their vaccination status on the government’s health app and undergo rapid testing at the airport.
Since the cancellation of inbound passengers from countries such as India, Pakistan and Nigeria, the UAE has been gradually relaxing travel regulations. The country’s largest cities, including Abu Dhabi and Dubai, began allowing residents to return earlier this month.
