UAE sends aircraft to Afghanistan to deliver aid-official media

The official WAM news agency stated that the United Arab Emirates dispatched an aircraft carrying “emergency medical and food assistance” to Afghanistan on Friday, nearly three weeks after the Taliban took over.

WAM said: “The aid is provided within the framework of the humanitarian role being played by the UAE in order to provide full support to the brotherly Afghan people in this current situation.”

The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed to Agence France-Presse that “this is the first (UAE) aid flight since the recent incident in Afghanistan.”

A few hours after the last U.S. troops evacuated from Kabul, Taliban fighters celebrated with gunfire and ended a crazy airlift. More than 123,000 foreign nationals and Afghans fled.

The UAE is one of many Gulf countries, and together with Qatar, Kuwait and Bahrain, it provides an important transit point for the evacuation flights of foreigners and Afghans.
