The award-winning Union Bank of the Philippines has expanded its graduate program LEAD (Leader Executive Accelerated Development) by introducing Tech LEAD, which focuses on cultivating technical talents to become future leaders.
The bank’s original LEAD program was established in 2009 as a fast track and accelerated course designed to provide its management trainees or LEADs with 6 to 7 years of training and work experience. The purpose is to allow individuals to contribute to UnionBank and their respective professional goals. The course also prepares leaders for the next important advancement in the organization.
Technical Director of UnionBank
UnionBank Tech LEAD conducts a 24-month rotation in a professional field, allowing them to immerse themselves in the end-to-end process, that is, front, middle and back office, to hone the staff leadership and management skills of the trainees.
As a leader in digital technology, UnionBank’s LEAD plan will inevitably advance to focus on innovation, data science and other technology-related disciplines. This is an important progress in meeting the needs of the World Bank’s digital leadership pipeline and establishing a pool of experts who can continue to support the World Bank’s transformation journey and capabilities.
The technical director of UnionBank will complete a 12-month development course to explore UnionBank’s working methods, technical landscape and other IT processes. They will also have the opportunity to build a foundation of business skills and leadership; industry certification is required to establish a framework for a successful career in the technical field. Currently, the bank has trained 79 LEADs.
“We are training future data scientists, information security managers, digital delivery executives, and future process masters, software developers, cloud engineers, and architects, who will eventually become DevSecOps engineers, as well as UX and CX designers. In addition, as above As stated, they will use fast learning paths and obtain industry certifications to prepare for expansion and enhancement of work-all of which are critical to the bank’s continued efforts to truly achieve digitalization,” said Catherine Ann Santiago, UnionBank Technology Department, Capability Supervisor-Human Resources Resource group.
UnionBank hopes that students will develop the habit of lifelong learning and explore beyond the 12-month course. The World Bank is also seeking to educate more people to change their own organization and culture; therefore, we believe that sharing, teaching, and learning are all aspects of leadership.
The Tech LEAD program looks forward to cultivating high-tech and high-touch talents, who will pave the way for the next level of banking and technology-adopting Union Bank Path/Road.
