The lack of social housing in the UK has led to high rents and an eviction crisis. It’s time to develop a new generation of social homes.
Britain’s housing crisis has reached boiling point. Even before the current crisis, 8.5 million people were unsatisfied housing needs— living in overcrowded, unsuitable, unaffordable or poor conditions housing — 4.2 million of whom would be better suited to live in social homes. At the heart of our broken housing model in recent decades is the rapid change in the makeup of our homes. NEF and Homes for Us Alliance will now develop a series of of‘carrots’ and of‘sticks’ will encourage this transition. Of course, we must build new homes, especially green social homes.
