Watch | Taliban hopes for a peaceful transition of power in a few days

A spokesperson said on Sunday that the Taliban hope to achieve a peaceful transition of power in the next few days as the insurgents arrive in the Afghan capital Kabul with little resistance.

Suhail Shaheen added that radical Islamic organizations will protect the rights of women, as well as the freedom of media workers and diplomats.

In an interview with the BBC, the spokesperson said: “We assure people, especially those in Kabul City, that their property and lives are safe.”

“Our leadership instructed our troops to stay at the gate of Kabul and not enter the city.

“We are waiting for a peaceful transfer of power,” he said, adding that the Taliban expect this to happen within a few days.
