We fight together – Splenda®

Splenda ADA Walk 2023

This American Diabetes Month®, we are pleased to highlight our partnership with American Diabetes Association® (ADA) and celebrate our two organizations’ continued commitment to the diabetes community.

our mission

Since 1940, the ADA has worked to prevent and treat diabetes and improve the lives of all people with diabetes. Diabetes care has changed dramatically over the past 80 years as science and technology have advanced, but the organization’s mission has remained steadfast.

At Splenda, our mission is to help people with diabetes and pre-diabetes live happier, healthier, longer lives by making it easier to lose sugar. Our zero-calorie sweeteners and diabetes nutritional shakes ensure people with diabetes can continue to enjoy the sweeter things in life, and we regularly provide educational resources to consumers and healthcare professionals, including practical tips on healthy eating and managing blood sugar.

The impact of food and nutrition on diabetes

Often, the first question a person asks after being diagnosed with type 1 or type 2 diabetes is “What can I eat?” The thought of having to closely monitor carbohydrate and sugar intake can be daunting, but it doesn’t have to be. Doesn’t mean you have to give up the sweet things in life.

According to the ADA, a balanced diet can help control weight, reduce the risk of heart disease, control blood sugar levels and improve the overall quality of life for people with diabetes. By choosing diabetic-friendly foods, you can balance your blood sugar and minimize your risk of complications, making food selection, portion size and meal timing key considerations. Consuming excess sugary foods can cause blood sugar spikes over time and impact health outcomes, which is why Splenda’s portfolio of zero-calorie sweeteners are valuable tools for improving the overall quality of life for people with diabetes.

The ADA has taken several steps to provide education and resources about healthy eating, food insecurity, recipes, and meal planning. From Diabetes Food Center® arrive Diabetes plate methodan organization that promotes food and nutrition as more than just a dietary choice; but it is an important part of daily life for people with diabetes and can make a huge difference in their health journey.

Proud partner

Given that diabetes and prediabetes affect so many of our loyal Splenda users, we are proud to partner with the ADA to provide diabetes-friendly recipes and support the organization’s education and advocacy efforts. We know that access to information and guidance about nutrition is critical to preventing and managing diabetes, which is why we are a proud supporter of the ADA Diabetes Food Center. Since our partnership with the ADA, we have contributed over 60 recipes to the Diabetes Food Center specifically designed for individuals looking to manage diabetes without sacrificing taste.

We also proudly support the ADA Kiss the Pig Galais an annual fundraiser that raises money to fight diabetes and find a cure. Until 1921, there was no cure for diabetes, and it wasn’t until researchers discovered insulin in the pancreas of pigs that life-saving treatments were created. Today, insulin comes in many forms, from regular insulin to ultra-fast and ultra-long-acting insulin. The “Kiss a Pig Gala” honors pigs for saving countless lives and is the highest-grossing and most attended charity gala in Arkansas.
