With the COP26 Global Climate Conference held later this year, we will spend five episodes in this series to discuss some of the biggest climate issues. Last week, we started work with Alice Bell and explained everything you need to know about greenwashing. This week’s conversation is about the climate movement of two generations of activists.
The modern environmental movement has a history of more than 50 years. In the past few years, a new generation of young student climate strikers has been rejuvenated.
Last week, a deadly heat wave swept through the western United States and Canada. The temperature in Pakistan’s Jacobbad soared to a life-threatening 52 degrees. How do activists communicate the link between these events and the climate crisis? Are the new wave of human rights defenders more willing to talk about colonialism and capitalism? What are the challenges facing today’s climate movement?
This week, we will host a dialogue between two generations of climate activists. One is Ann Pettifor, director of PRIME and author of The Green New Deal Case, and the other is Izzy Warren, a youth climate activist and member of the British Student Climate Network.
