In Thursday’s game between the Utah Jazz and the Indiana Pacers, 4 players expelledd After a dispute between center Rudy Gobert and Miles Turner.
With 4 minutes left in the game, Gobert received a pass from Jazz point guard Mike Conley and rolled over to the basket. When Gobert tried to score, Turner blocked the shot that caused Gobert to fall to the ground, pulling Turner’s shorts in the process. Both seemed to lose their tempers and had physical conflicts, and players from both teams ran to the scene of the incident.
The officials then reviewed the game and assessed Gobert and Turner’s technical fouls. Both players were expelled from the game.
Jazz players Donovan Mitchell and Joe Ingles were also expelled and convicted of technical fouls for participating in the incident after the argument. After careful observation video, Ingles seemed to push the official Ed Malloy when he stormed into this situation. Mitchell approached the Pacers bench and made contact with an official.
The head coach of the Jazz, Quinn Snyder, was puzzled by the reason why Mitchell was expelled from the game. “I tried to understand what Donovan did [to get ejected],” he Said“Except that he didn’t calm down fast enough, I saw nothing.” Malloy stated that he was expelled for “acting as an instigator and exacerbating the situation.”
The Jazz defeated 111-100. Whether these two centers can participate in the next game remains to be determined, however, any of them may be suspended.
