Samsung As the technology giant launched its latest generation of foldable phones, it announced that “the future is foldable.”
In order to adjust its smartphone product portfolio, the company chose not to launch a new version of its popular Galaxy Note large-screen device this year. Instead, it announced the launch of the Galaxy Z Fold3 and Z Flip3 with flexible screens.
Both new devices are waterproof for the first time, using stronger glass and metal frames to make them more durable, and as Samsung hopes to make foldable devices easier to use, their starting prices have also been reduced.
The Galaxy Z Fold3 starts at £1,599-lower than the £1,799 of last year’s device-and the Z Flip3 starts at £949, which is lower than the previous version’s £1,229.
The British company vice president of this mobile phone manufacturer and Ireland Conor Pierce stated that the goal is to “mainstream” folding devices for the first time.
Samsung launched its first foldable product in 2019 and added the clamshell Galaxy Z Flip in 2020, but so far, both series are regarded as super high-end, small Public equipment.
However, Mr. Pierce said that because the new Fold3 and Flip3 provide better durability and accessibility because of their lower prices, he believes that the mobile market is undergoing a major shift because these devices satisfy the public’s need for larger screens. Continuous demand and entertainment.
“I really believe that the future is foldable. For decades, you have seen shape changes from’candy bars’, large buttons and antennas to touch screens, flip phones and smartphones-so it has been evolving,” Pierce Said the sir.
“But in terms of the overall development of smartphones, this is definitely a timely moment.
“The market has been calling for change. The same type of appearance has been around for many years-you walk into a store and it’s really the same. Now there are some unique things that stand out. It’s a very different experience.
“I think people will flock to these devices because they are new and they want to use their phones in different ways.
“We are not only targeting our own audience, we also have the opportunity to gain from the competition. This is a rare opportunity we really want to take advantage of.”
Competitor Apple and Google Foldable smartphones have not yet been launched, and other foldable devices such as Huawei and Motorola Failed to capture the imagination of the public, making Samsung a major manufacturer in the market.
As part of efforts to attract more people to use its foldable products, Samsung’s S Pen stylus (common in the company’s Note series) is compatible with the new Fold3 for the first time.
Mr. Pierce added that in the next few years, he believes that the discussion around smartphone use will no longer be about whether people choose to use Apple devices or Android devices, but whether they are “foldable” or “tablet” mobile phone users.
But industry experts say that Samsung still needs to work hard to bring foldable phones into the mainstream.
Leo Gebbie, chief analyst for connected devices at CCS Insight, said: “Samsung’s Unpacked event highlights the company’s investment in foldable devices. Galaxy Z Fold3 and Z Flip3 continue the company’s substantial investment in the still niche smartphone market. a part of.
“These two devices are examples of evolution rather than revolution, because Samsung aims to gradually improve the performance and functionality of foldable devices and address user concerns about their durability.
“The question still revolves around the real value provided by foldable devices, especially when compared to’regular’ flagship smartphones that offer top specifications at lower prices.
“Samsung has clearly declared itself to be the leader in the foldable device market, but it is worth noting that competitors like Apple have not felt the need to follow suit. This raises the question of whether the level of consumer demand is worth the investment.
“We believe that foldable products are still focused on technology enthusiasts and early adopters, and we are still a long way from providing truly compelling solutions for the mass market.”
The new foldable phone was unveiled along with two new smart watches, Galaxy Watch4 and Watch4 Classic, and Galaxy Buds2 wireless headphones. A full range of new phones and accessories will be on sale in the UK on August 27.
