San Remo Festivalor as officially known, italian song festival, is an annual song competition and award ceremony held every February in Sanremo, Liguria. The first festival was held in 1951, making it 72 years old and the longest-running annual televised music competition in world history. It was also the original inspiration for the hugely popular Eurovision Song Contest.
The first Sanremo was held for three days and only three artists participated – Nirapez, Achill Tolianiand Dofasano – Performs twenty different songs, but the most recent version lasted five days, with 25 performers performing only one song each.

How are the San Remo winners chosen?
The festival relies on a hybrid voting system that includes media jury voting, public televised voting and a referendum. The percentage weights for each voting system depend on the night, as follows:
- first night: 100% Media Jury Vote
- Second night: 100% Media Jury Vote
- Third night: 50% public televised voting; 50% democratic voting
- Fourth night: 34% public television vote; 33% public vote; 33% media jury vote
- Fifth night: 100% public televised voting
The overall winner is usually honored to enter the Eurovision Song Contest as an Italian contestant.Exposure to such a large international audience has launched the careers of many Italian artists, the latest example being the Italian rock band moonlight In 2021 he won the San Remo and the Eurovision Song Contest.
