Easy Creamy Fruit Salad Recipe
Did you know that fruit salad isn’t just for summer?
This winter fruit salad is one of my favorite desserts to make during the cold winter months. It’s the perfect way to brighten up every day!
This creamy fruit salad combines the sweetness of winter fruits, pomegranate seeds, and a delicious dressing of yogurt, poppy seeds, honey, and orange juice. It's vibrant, fresh, sweet, and totally delicious!
Enjoy this simple fruit salad as is, or substitute any of your favorite fruits! It's the perfect snack, side dish or dessert.
Required raw materials
- apple – Core and dice. If you want to remove the peel, feel free to do so, but I don’t think it’s necessary!
- Tangerine – Peel and segment. No need to cut into small pieces. They fit perfectly with other fruits as is.
- banana – Peel and slice.
- kiwi – Technically, you can eat the skin of a kiwi, but I recommend removing it. It's a little fibrous and fuzzy, which can be unpleasant in a creamy fruit salad!
- pomegranate arils – You can find pomegranate seeds ready-made in many grocery stores, or you can easily sow your own, Check out my tips here.
- poppy seed paste – Our fruit salad dressing is made original greek yogurt, poppy seeds, honey and orange juice. If you don’t have honey, maple syrup also makes a great natural sweetener for the dressing.
How to Make Fruit Salad
This fruit salad recipe is as easy as any fruit salad recipe! Just prepare a little fruit and put everything together in a bowl.
- Combine fruits: Wash, peel and slice all fruit as needed and place in a large mixing bowl.
- Add seasonings: In a small bowl, stir together yogurt, poppy seeds, honey and orange juice. Pour this over the fruit and stir gently until evenly coated, then store or serve.

How to keep fruit salad from getting watery?
Realistically, there's not much you can do to prevent the fruit from releasing moisture while it's sitting. The sooner fruit salad is served, the better.
How to prevent fresh fruit salad from turning brown?
Like the texture, the color of the fruit will change as it sits and oxidizes. The good news is that the orange juice in the dressing helps slow down this process, keeping your fruit looking fresher for longer.
But, as I mentioned before – the sooner it’s served, the better!
Tips and Notes
- Use ripe (but not overly ripe) bananas. I recommend using bananas that have just turned from chartreuse to yellow. These are still sweet, but have enough integrity to be included in a salad. Overripe bananas will become mushy.
- Dice and slice evenly. While all fruits will be different, I recommend keeping all fruits relatively similar in size for a more uniform fruit salad.
- Toss gently. You want to make sure all the fruit is evenly coated with the dressing, but be sure to do it gently or you'll end up mashing/shredding the fruit.
Variety
- Make it dairy-free. You can easily make this into a non-dairy fruit salad by simply swapping out the Greek yogurt for a non-dairy variety. Depending on the sugar content of the yogurt you are using, you may need to adjust the amount of honey. I recommend starting with a little less, tasting it, then adding more as needed before dressing the salad.
- Use other fruits. You can use almost any fruit in this recipe. Feel free to add or change them to suit the season or whatever is available to you. Try grapes, pineapples, berries, plums, pears, you name it.
- Add nuts. Want a little crunch in your creamy fruit salad? Try adding a handful of chopped walnuts or pecans.
