With the increase in COVID-19 Delta variant cases, Chicago added 9 new states to its travel advisory list on Tuesday.
According to a statement issued by the Chicago Department of Public Health (CDPH), the newly added states to the city’s travel advisory list include Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Kansas, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas and Wyoming.
The CDPH said in the update: “New York City’s travel advisory now has 14 states and one region.” “These states have exceeded the level of 15 cases per 100,000 residents per day.”
In addition to the nine new states added on Tuesday, Chicago has previously issued travel advisories for Arkansas, Missouri, Louisiana, Florida and Nevada. The U.S. Virgin Islands are also included on Chicago’s travel advisory list because they have more than 15 new cases per 100,000 residents per day.
“It is recommended that any unvaccinated people from these states and territories get a negative COVID-19 test result no more than 72 hours before arriving in Chicago or isolate for 10 days after arrival. People who are vaccinated do not need to be isolated or undergo a negative test,” CDPH said in the update.
Although all states under the city’s travel advisory recorded more than 15 new cases per 100,000 residents per day, at least 8 of the 14 states reported more than 20 new cases per 100,000 residents per day. According to data released by CDPH, Arkansas currently reports 52.4 cases per 100,000 residents per day, which is the most among all 14 states.
At least five other states are likely to be included in Chicago’s travel advisory list, including Hawaii, Georgia, Utah, Kentucky, and South Carolina because they currently report more than 10 new cases per 100,000 residents per day. example.
CDPH Commissioner Allison Arwady emphasized the importance of vaccination against the new virus in a tweet after adding nine states to the city’s travel advisory list on Tuesday.

The CDPH update on Tuesday was due to the increase in COVID-19 cases in many states due to the highly spreading Delta variant.
