The World Bank said on Wednesday that it has stopped providing aid to Taliban-ruled Afghanistan.
It tells the BBC It worries about how the Taliban’s rule will affect “the country’s development prospects, especially for women”.
According to the BBC, it has pledged more than R80 billion to projects in Afghanistan since 2002.
A spokesperson told the media: “We have suspended payments during operations in Afghanistan, and we are closely monitoring and evaluating the situation in accordance with our internal policies and procedures.”
“We will continue to consult closely with the international community and development partners. We are exploring with our partners how to continue to participate in order to maintain the hard-won development results and continue to support the Afghan people.”
