YouTube Analytics now separates data by video type


YouTube is rolling out updates to analytics reports that will benefit content creators who make videos in different formats.

You can now see total video views for each type of content posted to your channel.

Previously, data was combined into a single metric that counted views across all content types.

YouTube made these changes to help you understand and compare the performance of different video formats.

You can compare views of regular videos, short clips, and live broadcasts to see which type of content is driving the most engagement on your channel.

Separate data for content types in YouTube Analytics

You’ll notice in YouTube Studio when this change rolls out arrival and got engaged Tabs you’re used to seeing at the channel level.They will be named content.

The Content tab will become a consolidated home page where you can track the performance of different content types.

When you click on the Content tab, you’ll see several navigation items that take you to metrics for individual video types.

For example, you will see a video If you are creating a long video (VOD), button, a shorts button, if you are creating a short video, a live button, if you do live streaming, etc.

These changes will roll out to all creators on mobile and desktop over the next few weeks.

This update applies to channel-level analytics only. No change, no change in video-level analytics.

Why is YouTube making these changes?

Feedback from creators indicates that there is a strong need for separate analysis. As mentioned, all video views are currently combined into one metric.

YouTube is adding separate analytics, as well as the ability to compare metrics for the first time.

No data is removed, it’s just presented differently.

If the data appears to be lost, it’s likely moved to a new location. For example, traffic source data will appear throughout YouTube Analytics instead of having its own section.

What about viewing time?

Creators may want to know when they can access more granular data such as watch time By content type.

YouTube says it’s difficult to include all metrics everywhere.If you want to see watch time by content type, you can visit Advanced Mode In the top right corner of the desktop version of YouTube Studio.

From there you can filter metrics by content type, which will allow you to get watch time in different formats.

What about historical data?

Metrics filtered by content type are only available at specific points in time.

If you want to see a full history of your data, you can get it in the advanced mode of YouTube Analytics for desktop.
