Republicans like to win for power rather than policy. They are strategically good at making promises that audiences desire to hear, and they have no intention of fulfilling those promises. Part of their strategy is to repeat the slogan over and over again, creating a real atmosphere to disperse the lies they spread. Youngkin used this strategy when talking about the “critical race theory” taught by the school. The Daily Beast in an article today describes Youngkin as:
“A Carlyle Group private equity investor with an estimated value of US$440 million has passed opposition to the mask and vaccine injunction, questioned the results of the 2020 presidential election, called for an audit of the Virginia voting machine, opposed abortion, supported transphobia and Distorting facts and gaining a reputation for the existence of critical racial theories in Virginia schools. Youngkin also managed to attract more moderates by keeping a visual distance from former President Donald Trump, even though the two are almost identical in politics.”
Democrats need to work together to squander the power they barely possess in all three branches of government. In a debate in Virginia, Terry McAuliffe made stupid remarks about parents “cannot tell the school what to teach”. Qualified educators and administrators who are indeed qualified to develop the curriculum taught by the school. In fact, parents with opinions will not usurp the final decision of educators in a position of authority. Parents requesting to remove age-appropriate fact courses or books from the national curriculum due to prejudice, preference, fear or religious beliefs will not exceed the majority opinion of professionals. However, parents should be allowed to express their opinions in discussions about the content of the course. Education professionals will make the final decision. McAuliffe should say: “We welcome every parent to share their views and concerns about their children’s education.”
Despite Yankin’s victory, Democrats must pay close attention to him and his alliance with the racist and rebellious Donald Trump. Those MAGA hats are intoxicating, and the Democratic Party must continue to associate candidates like Youngkin with Trump’s love of trying to overthrow the government and reposition himself as an unelected dictator. He lost terribly in both the Electoral College and the general election, but he was still able to unite millions of Americans to support the destruction of the foundation of democracy; the sanctity of the people’s vote.
Democrats think that reminding people of how dangerous, hypocritical and mean Trump is enough to defeat him is short-sighted. So far, Trump’s anti-social skills in lying and projecting his shortcomings and crimes on others have benefited him politically. However, Trump is currently investigating illegal business practices, attempts to illegally overthrow the 2020 election, and inciting congressional rebellions that could disrupt his political career or imprison him. In a way, the Ministry of Justice and the courts are still our hope to save us from a person and a party who is transforming our democracy into a corrupt Bolsanaro-Putin-like dictatorship. If you continue to advance towards fascism, those who support it will be the biggest losers.
