10 Fall Skincare Essentials | Jesse Ann Kirby

Fall is here, and as the seasons change, so do our skincare needs. I always notice how the changes in the weather this time of year start to affect my skin. With the weather getting colder and the air drier, my skin needs now are different than my summer skin needs a few months ago.

My skin used to get messy with the seasons and I didn’t realize I wasn’t taking the proper steps to adjust to the seasons. Once I found a good beautician, she helped me figure out what products and skincare steps I could take to avoid breakouts and dry spots. These are my fall favorites, and today I’m sharing a series of skincare points and tips to help your skin adjust to the cool, dry season.

10 Fall Skincare Essentials

cleanser

With the changing seasons and cool, dry air, now is a good time to switch from your cleanser to something smoother and more hydrating. My Holy Grail Cleaner is Naturopathica Manuka Honey Cleansing Balm. It is so soothing, removes makeup and leaves my skin feeling hydrated. Suitable for all skin types, including acne-prone skin, this cleanser has soothing properties like Manuka Honey, Royal Jelly Peptides, Sodium Hyaluronate (to help skin retain moisture). I only use this at night so the jar lasts a long time.

lip scrub

Exfoliating can feel counter-intuitive when lips feel dry, but I found that This Lipstick From French Girl Organics A few winters ago, it completely changed the game. It is very gentle and leaves lips feeling smooth and soft. A little goes a long way and the jar lasts forever. This stuff is great for dry, chapped lips all fall and winter.

lip balm

After exfoliating, protect lips with a soothing lip balm. Kosas Hyaluronic Acid Lip Balm One of my winter favorites. It is sheer but looks slightly glossy. It also offers some tinted shades that leave a nice subtle tint. winter threesome A great value for the set.

Vitamin C Serum

I use vitamin C serums year-round, but if you’re new to it, now is a good time to try it. Follain Brightening Serum It’s my favorite 5% vitamin C and niacinamide. Vitamin C Serum can help brighten dull skin, this serum is lightweight and non-sticky. Only one pump is required. I apply it in the morning before applying sunscreen and makeup.

Moisturizing

I’ve been looking for a rich and creamy overnight moisturizer and I’ve finally found one that I really like. Tatcha Indigo Overnight Repair Serum Basically an overnight moisturizer. Although it is more expensive, I use it as my night serum, moisturizer and oil. It’s very rich, so a little goes a long way. This product is definitely suitable for dry, mature skin.If you think this might be too much for your skin, I recommend This moisturiser contains bakuchiol and squalane from alpyn beauty.

sunscreen

Just because summer is over doesn’t mean you can skip sunscreen. SPF is year round and should be worn daily.what i want is Saie Sunvisor is a hydrating, hydrating SPF that gives skin a dewy glow. It contains vitamin C to help brighten and protect against free radicals, while hyaluronic acid, vitamin E and aloe vera hydrate and nourish.

hand cream

Cold weather brings chapped, dry hands, and my hands are especially dry in the fall and winter.I love Essential Hand Cream Since it’s fragrance-free, it absorbs quickly and doesn’t leave hands feeling greasy, but it does. I keep one in my wallet all the time. It’s great for feet and elbows too!

exfoliate

Don’t skip exfoliating in the fall and winter, but you can do it less often.i really like it Dr Dennis Gross Alpa Beta Extra Strength Daily Peel. I use it once a week in fall and winter to help brighten and exfoliate dead skin.

eye cream

The delicate skin around the eyes is more prone to dryness in autumn and winter.Try creams and moisturizing eye creams like This one is from Biossance. It hydrates, brightens, soothes and melts into the skin.

body lotion

My skin gets itchy and dry in the fall and winter, so I have to moisturize every inch of my body.I tried Biossance Toning Body Lotion In their summer sale, I love it. It’s rich and creamy and absorbs quickly.Another favorite of mine for fall and winter is First Aid Beauty’s Ultra Repair Cream. It lasts long and is good for eczema too.

Fall Skincare Tips

wear spf everyday

Now is not the time to start skipping SPF! It’s important to apply sunscreen year-round, especially when you’re outdoors in the fall and winter. If you ski/snowboard, it is very important to wear SPF on the mountain as the sun reflects very strongly on the snow. Find one you love and incorporate it into your fall skincare routine.

Use a moisturizing cleanser

Colder weather means drier skin. In hot weather and dry indoor air, our skin often needs more moisture, and moisturizing, soothing cleansers are our best bet. I only wash my face with water in the morning and a moisturizing cleanser in the evening.

Added Vitamin C Serum

Vitamin C serum can help fight free radicals and protect the skin barrier during the fall and winter seasons. It also helps protect against UV damage from the sun, which is why it works so well with SPF. Eating more fruits and vegetables that contain vitamin C can also help your skin (and health).

Gently exfoliate weekly

Exfoliating is still good in the fall, but minimize it. Pay attention to how your skin feels and what it needs without over exfoliating. For me, once a week is usually enough, after which I do a moisturizing mask.

skip scorching hot water

A hot shower feels good (guilty) as the temperature drops, but it’s not good for your skin. Hot water can dry out your skin and scalp, so try to keep your shower short and don’t make the water too hot.

clean your makeup brushes

When was the last time you cleaned your makeup brushes? If you don’t remember, now might be a good time to do so. It doesn’t have to be complicated. Just a little soap and water, then rinse the brushes until the water clears, then let them air dry.
