Gina DiNardo, executive secretary of the American Kennel Club (AKC), said that some breeds are more loyal to their owners than others.

She told Weekly newspaper: “Each dog is different, but as we all know, certain breeds keep in touch with strangers and keep close contact with their family members.

“Some people may even have a special person at home, who likes it more than others.

“As with any breed, socializing is important for a well-rounded partner. Be sure to research before adding a dog to your life.”
