15 things to do before summer ends

Believe it or not, it’s already August and summer is almost over (ugh). Summer is dreamy, magical, and fleeting. It never feels long enough, and as each summer ends and into fall, I always find myself wishing I had more time. Why not make a checklist to help check what you want to do this summer? The ideas are endless, but today I’m sharing 15 things you can do before the end of summer to help make the most of these long, warm, sunny days. Let us know in the comments if there’s anything you’d like to do before the end of summer.

15 things to do before summer ends

swim

It’s been hot in New England (and across the country) this summer, and there’s nothing quite like taking a refreshing dip. I swim in the local rivers, lakes and ponds all summer and it is a very relaxing, free and refreshing activity. I’m always fully submerged because if you don’t get your head fully wet it’s not the same. Wash off your hair and makeup worries and give it a try, you won’t regret it.

One of the things on my bucket list this summer is swimming in the ocean. We’re inland Vermont, so we’re going to visit some families on the Jersey Shore to fix our ocean problems. I can’t wait for sand, salt water and waves. Mix it up and get into the water in every possible way while it’s still warm enough to swim in!

hiking

Whether you’re a hiker or not, hiking in the summer is a great way to see stunning views and get a different perspective. It helps you appreciate all that nature and the outdoors have to offer. Do some research and try a new local hike or day trip. Or maybe while you’re away, you can try your favorite local hike. You will enjoy the challenges of the journey and the view from the top of the mountain.

go for a bike ride

Cycling is a great way to see more in less time. You also don’t have to be an extreme mountain biker or long-distance rider. You can rent bikes locally or anywhere you travel and explore the best spots along bike paths, trails or local bike paths. This is a great way to get outside and enjoy yourself.

visit a new place

It’s not too late to book an overnight stay or plan a new day trip at the last minute. Maybe you’ve been dying to visit a nearby destination or want to venture further afield. Airbnb gets canceled quite often, and some great deals pop up. Keep an eye on your destination and be open to spontaneous travel. Sometimes these are the funniest!

try new

We are all so caught up in our routines and things we love that we forget to try new things. Kimchi is on my list this summer. Get out of your comfort zone and try something you’ve always been curious about. Maybe invite some friends to join you and make it fun!

go to an outdoor concert

Summer outdoor concerts are the best! This is definitely my favorite part of summer. In Vermont, we have many opportunities locally, including in restaurants, local parks and farms. Check your local listings to see what’s available in your area. Or, maybe try it while you’re away. It’s a fun way to relax and enjoy the community and the outdoors.

Dine al fresco

Eating out is another favorite summer luxury. Book al fresco dining at a local restaurant or plan a day trip to something new and interesting. It was lovely to sit outside and enjoy great food, good company and a great view with a cocktail on the patio.

Host a Party or BBQ

We usually throw a lot of summer parties, but this summer seems to be getting away from us! We decided to throw a party before the end of summer. Pick a date, send it and invite family and friends to a party or BBQ. It can be a party, spend the summer in style, or enjoy it while it’s still here. Get everyone to BYOB and bring a dish to keep things simple.Check out our 10 Tips for Hosting a Picnic.

go camping

Camping is a fun way to really enjoy the outdoors in summer. Many campgrounds are booked for late summer, but you can try calling campgrounds in your area to see if there are any vacancies.we collected some Great Campgrounds in New England. take a look Our tips for camping this summer Helping you get ready for fun, successful and exciting adventures! Why not go camping in your backyard? Even if you don’t travel very far, sleeping under the stars can be fun.

read a book

It’s hard to find time to unwind and do some quiet activity like reading, but it’s relaxing and one of my favorite parts of summer. Don’t let summer go by without time to relax and enjoy a good book (audiobooks count too!). Whether reading on the beach, on your porch, or in a hammock, take some time for yourself. you deserved!Check out our recommendations 25 Summer Beach Reads Get inspired!

go to the tubing

My girlfriends and I are determined to put a YouTube tour on the schedule before the end of the summer. I used to go to the plumbing a few times each summer and then I had a baby…but it was one of the most relaxing and fun summer activities, especially in Vermont. You can rent tubes that provide you with transportation. Often, we buy our own pipes and coordinate our routes and park cars ahead of time. Depending on your travel time and river conditions, it usually takes a full day. This summer has been hot and dry and our rivers in Vermont are very low. If you plan to travel, make sure you consider that you may be on the river for more than 6 hours. Bring a cooler with drinks and snacks and plan accordingly! A fun-filled day on the river, coordination is always a lot, but well worth it!

Make time for your favorite things

Summer is a great time for golf, cycling, tennis, hiking, surfing, boating, paddle boarding and more. What do you like to do in summer? Maybe it’s just relaxing in a hammock in the shade. Don’t let it slip away from you without making time for your favorite things! Schedule it in advance and put it on your calendar so you don’t forget or make excuses to skip it. You’ll be happy to have time to do what you love.

do everything outside

We invested in some outdoor furniture and a separate stove this summer, and I realized we need to make more use of them while we still can. Eat all your meals outside, skip Netflix and grab a drink by the fire outside, go for hikes and picnics, meet friends and play apps and drinks in the park. The options are endless. Doing things outdoors just makes everything more enjoyable, relaxing and fun. Don’t forget to bring bug spray and sunscreen to avoid bites and burns!

eat ice-cream

Is there anything better than eating ice cream in summer? Go to your favorite exclusive store and enjoy your favorite flavors. Or throw a fun ice cream party at home.

picking flowers or berries

Picking flowers and berries in summer is the best! It’s so special to see a farm that works so hard to grow and care for these plants. It’s hard work, and we’re lucky to benefit from it. Visit your local flower and berry farm and pick your own. Make your own flower arrangements and decorate your house. Bring friends and enjoy the great outdoors.
