If you’re engaged, chances are your engagement ring has a special connection to you. That sparkling gemstone on your finger will always bring you back to that special day, evoking thoughts of love, happiness and contentment. Not to mention, it looks fabulous on your fingers with shimmers day in and day out!
While we tend to get sentimental about our engagement rings, there’s absolutely no shame in wanting to change things up a bit. For example, many couples may have gotten engaged at some point in their lives when budgets were tight, and now they wish they could invest in a ring so they have more cash on hand. Or maybe your jewelry tastes have changed a lot since you first got engaged—after all, whose fashion hasn’t evolved over time?
Luckily, there are plenty of ways to enhance or upgrade your beloved engagement ring without trading it off entirely. That way, you’ll still be wearing the ring you already love every day, but it’ll also feel new and exciting!
Here are some creative ways to upgrade your diamond engagement ring.
1. Turn it into a trilogy or an eternity ring
One of the great things about simple diamond solitaire rings is that they can be decorated however you see fit. To add a little extra sparkle, some brides decide to upgrade their solitaire rings to trilogy rings by adding more stones on either side of the central stone. A smaller diamond on each side, forming a beautiful diamond trilogy ring, is an option – this will add an extra wow factor to your ring, but it’s still underwhelming for everyday wear I think it’s too exaggerated.
Alternatively, you can choose a different gemstone, such as an important birthstone, to be beautifully set next to your center diamond. You can even choose some of the smaller stones and set them in the shank of your ring, turning your solitaire into an eternity ring. A striking example is Megan Markle’s updated engagement ring. Following the birth of baby Archie, the trilogy ring saw a sparkling upgrade to the pavé diamonds on either side of the ring.
2. Try a new band
Some people have always felt confident about being a “silver gold person,” “golden person,” or “rose gold person,” but for many, tastes change over time. An easy way to customize your engagement ring and keep it in sync with current styles is to set your diamond in a new shank. If you’re looking for something extra sparkly, you can opt for rose gold, platinum, or even pavé rings.
3. Replace the center stone
Upgrading the center stone in an engagement ring is a great way to add value and beauty to the ring. Some couples plan for such an upgrade from the start, simply choosing a placeholder stone that their budget allows for before saving up for something more special.
The beauty of this option is that your beloved ring will still feel the same and have the same characteristics, but with the added brilliance you have always dreamed of!
4. Add some sculpting
If you really want to add some extra emotion to your engagement ring, a small engraving is a great idea. Even just a few special words can add a level of personalization to your ring, and if you engrave it on the inside of the ring, it will be kept from you and your partner – a special secret.
5. Add a Ring Booster or Second Band
An easy way to elevate the look of your engagement ring without compromising the precious ring itself is to add a charm or anniversary ring. This will complement your ring perfectly, but you can still choose to wear it on its own.
However you decide to upgrade your diamond engagement ring, it will always be special and sentimental to you and your partner. If you have the means, why not give it a little extra love and attention? You’re sure to feel great when you add a little extra sparkle to your life!
