Review- If I have a dollar every time I go camping or travel, and have a bad experience on cooler and ice, I will have at least three dollars. Traditional coolers may have various problems, such as leakage, melting ice causing food soaking, ice/melting ice (also known as water) weight causing back breakage, and expiration of the built-in cooling capacity (unless you keep removing the melted ice) Ice cubes, add new ice cubes while walking). Enter the BougeRV 30 quart (28L) portable refrigerator/freezer, which can be powered by AC or DC power (wall or car plug/solar/battery generator). This relatively small refrigerator/freezer seems to be the perfect solution for long-distance trips, long-distance camping trips, or any other activities that require indefinite refrigeration or freezing and power.

What is it?

The BougeRV 30-quart (28-liter) portable refrigerator/freezer is a small refrigerator or freezer, the size of which is about the same as a standard cooler, which is very suitable for car/RV travel or any other scene where the refrigerator or freezer needs to be used in a small space.I keep saying “fridge Either Refrigerator” because it can only set one temperature for the entire device: you cannot store frozen and cold food in it at the same time. As shown in the picture above, next to our 50-quart traditional cooler, it is a large cooler, but not very big.

Design and features

The BougeRV 30-quart (28-liter) portable refrigerator/freezer is mainly made of plastic, but it looks like high-strength plastic and is durable.

The top is open for easy access, and the partition is detachable. There are useful instructions around the LCD screen on the right. After reviewing the manual, I don’t need to refer to it again because of these instructions. Even in the sun, the LCD screen is very bright and readable. It will automatically lock after a few seconds. It’s really good if there are curious kids around you who like to press buttons. In this case, they won’t be able to turn off the device or change the temperature and thaw or freeze things that shouldn’t Thaw or freeze.

The side handles are plastic, but even when fully loaded, they look sturdy, and they are easy to lift the device.

The BougeRV 30-quart (28L) portable refrigerator/freezer can be powered by a wall AC outlet or a car’s 12 volt DC power plug (for people over 30, this was once called a cigarette lighter plug). You can also power the device from a generator or backup battery unit, for example Preda Mobile Power Station I reviewed it recently. The device even has a beautiful under-voltage protection function: it can be set to low/medium/high to display the incoming voltage level, and if the voltage drops too low, it will automatically shut down the device. This prevents the refrigerator/freezer from draining the car or RV battery so that you cannot start the car/RV.

There are 4 rubber feet on the bottom of the device to prevent sliding on hard surfaces. It worked well within a few weeks of using it, and there are several replacement parts in the box to prevent them from falling off eventually.

The fan vent on the right allows the cooling unit to function. The fans and cooling units are very similar to the small refrigerator/freezer in my office closet: you can hear them when they are working, but they are not loud. Before writing the review, I never noticed that the white line tried to stick out of the fan vent in the picture above, but it didn’t seem to be far enough to stop anything, so I was not too worried.

The BougeRV 30-quart (28L) portable refrigerator/freezer can hold approximately 30 standard soda cans in a vertical or horizontal position. It is just wide enough to hold a “tall” can. If you want to hold something larger, such as 2 liters or wine bottles, the partition in the middle can be removed. This storage space is smaller than the overall footprint of the device, but for a traditional cooler, you have to put a bag of ice cubes, so it ends up very similar in terms of overall storage space.

Installation and setup

Installation is very simple: First, you move the BougeRV 30-quart (28L) portable refrigerator/freezer to where you want to use it, whether it is a motorhome, a car, or around your home or cottage.

Next, plug in the power source (AC or DC).

Then put the items to be refrigerated into the refrigerator/freezer, set the temperature, and the temperature can be reached after a few hours. If you are storing a frozen item, you need to insert it first and cool it down, as it may take several hours to reach temperature, especially when it starts to get hot.

Performance

During this review period, we used the BougeRV 30-quart (28-liter) portable refrigerator/freezer as an activity beverage storage and a vehicle for a day trip by car. I set the temperature of the beverage storage to 40 degrees Fahrenheit and then cooled from 90 degrees (sitting in the garage in hot weather) to 40 degrees within a few hours. As shown above, the unit is always one or three degrees lower than our setting, and we have Coca-Cola close to the mud (I like it). If you use it for frozen food, it will become very cold (BougeRV rated it as -7°F), but you cannot mix and match frozen and refrigerated food, it is a temperature of the entire device.

During the review, my only (minor) concern was the bending around the power plug. As shown above, the plastic has quite a bit of bend next to the basic power connection. During normal use, the power plug fits very well, I don’t worry about it being unplugged, but if I want to improve one thing, it’s this area.

what do I like

  • Solid refrigeration/freezing
  • Considerable storage capacity
  • Undervoltage protection to prevent the car battery from running out

What will i change

  • Plastic bends around the power plug connector

Final thoughts

The BougeRV 30-quart (28-liter) portable refrigerator/freezer is a small tool that is very suitable for use and review. I like it when the device is really useful during and after the review, and the device has gained a permanent location in our garage, which can be used for additional cold drink storage. This is a reliable and convenient travel cooler, perfect for the 30-plus event we hosted a few weeks ago. I like its ease of use, reliable refrigeration/freezing, battery protection, and power input flexibility.
