New surgical method: fight epilepsy with laser technology

A new surgical method has brought hope to patients with epilepsy. Two doctors at the Frankfurt University Clinic have received special laser surgery training abroad.

With other people, his body will cramp. “If I’m unlucky, I can stand up in a while, and I will fall in a while.” Alexander Shure has been suffering from epilepsy since he was twelve years old. Sometimes he has several seizures a day, sometimes not once in a few weeks. The suffering has never completely disappeared. The fear that may happen again at any time is his constant companion. “It’s always stupid to work out in public. You’re just not used to it.”

Scheuer was never allowed to obtain a driver’s license. The risk of losing consciousness on the steering wheel is too great. He also prefers to leave the bicycle behind. He hasn’t swim for a long time. Life is dangerous when you don’t know when control will slip out of your hands again. Shure lived in isolation and was considered unable to work. The medicine made him feel tired and had difficulty concentrating. Since then, he has tried twelve different epilepsy drugs. In the long run, neither will help. “I just want to return to my life now,” the twenty-eight-year-old said.
