At least 16 people died in floods in Tennessee

SecondA flood in Tennessee, USA, killed at least 16 people. As the local media reported by citing information provided by the authorities, dozens of people were still missing on Sunday. In the southern U.S. state, heavy rains on Saturday caused flooding. The weather service mentioned “historic” rainfall.

As the local newspaper “Tennessee” reported, rescue and clean-up work continued on Sunday. The Civil Defense Department of Humphreys County, west of Nashville, recorded 16 deaths. To prevent robbery, the authorities imposed a curfew.

The mayor of Waverley said on the local broadcaster WKRN that the storm was “almost as fast as a tornado” in central Tennessee. Torn cars and muddy streets are shown on TV.

The Civil Defense Agency stated that in addition to Humphreys and Waverly, the Dixon, Hickman and Houston areas were also severely affected by the floods. Rainfall was between 22 and 43 cm in the six hours on Saturday morning. The storm only subsided at night.
