However, if you call DHL these days to send the shipment to Kabul, the lady on the phone will tell you “the service has been suspended indefinitely”.
The “indefinite suspension” here is almost everything 20 years after the attack on the World Trade Center in New York, which triggered the invasion of Afghanistan. The Taliban are back, and they have taken the capital. The failure of the West is not only reminiscent of Asia in 1975, when Americans fled Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos. The Prince Sisowath Sirik Matak of Cambodia wrote a heartbreaking letter to the American ambassador at the time: “I don’t believe for a moment that you will give up a people who choose freely. You have rejected your protection and we can’t do anything about it. I’m just wrong. I believe you, Americans.”
