Deutsche Post is preparing for more than 60% of postal voters

DThe Post is preparing for this year’s Bundestag elections, and there will be much more postal voters than there were in the 2017 Bundestag elections. “We will see if this will be in the range of 40% higher, or even in the range of 50%,” said Tobias Meyer, A member of the board of directors of Deutsche Post and Parcel, Funke Mediengruppe’s newspaper starts on Thursday. “If more than 60% of voters use mail voting, we are also ready.”

The Swiss Postal Administration expects to receive the most letters shortly before the election. Meyer announced that Deutsche Post will use a “separate process” for the actual election on Sunday. In the first few days, more checks will be conducted to ensure that the mailboxes are not overcrowded. “We will specifically check whether there is really nothing left behind,” Meyer told the newspaper.

Safer than registered mail

Meyer said he advises voters who want to be on the safe side not to send the letter as registered mail. “These documents should be returned as intended, because the extradition process is coordinated with the authorities.”

In terms of operations, postal voting is not a major challenge for Deutsche Post. “We send about 50 million letters every day,” Meyer said. “Even if compared with 2017, the number of mailed voters doubled to 26 million, the delivery and return of all letters from mailed voters will be equivalent to the normal daily number.” Bundestag election It happened on September 26.
