TonHe is amazing Manuel de OliveiraHe died in 2015 at the age of 106 and has been making movies until the end. In my opinion, he is usually a filmmaker from a more solemn, almost pre-film era: a letter director or a manuscript culture director. This can be called his will movie, personal movie memoir or movie meditation. It was filmed in 1982, but was postponed until his death at the director’s request, which is farther than anyone thought. It is only now released in the UK.
It is amazing to think of a film director who has restraint, is not worldly, and does have a reputation for funding, but will not be screened for a few years and will not receive normal commercial returns. This is really amazing. Oliveira is characterized by making a movie locked like a secret poem. This is really a family movie (somewhat) set in his gorgeous house in Porto, shaped like a boat. Two invisible tourists wandered around it, contemplating history and philosophy, while Oliveira himself was a bit stiff but calmly and frankly told the camera about his family history and his own life, which is more than you might think It’s much more dramatic.
Under Francois Antonio de Oliveira Salazar In the 1960s, Oliveira was arrested by the secret police for making anti-government remarks and held in a cruel prison for several weeks (Olivera interestingly dramatized this moment in his life, like a Vivid dreams break into the documentary). After the socialist revolution in 1974, workers occupied the textile factory founded by his father and run by Manor himself. Although he was not interested in business, the factory was destroyed and most of the family property had to be sold.
Oliveira reflects on his love for his wife Isabel (showing a poignant wedding photo in 1940) and his own rather conservative, platonic concept of women. He also showed us the room where he said his movie was written, the room with intricate furnishings, old-fashioned but still charming-this kind of environment is perfectly suitable. Obviously, Oliveira regards this house as a symbol of his life and mortal existence, and it will soon disappear. “Even St. Peter dreams of closing the gates of heaven and turning off the lights,” he mused. But the lights have been on for decades.
