We have reported a lot of reports about bad media behavior.
In general, many media have done a better job in reporting more honestly in this disaster in Afghanistan.
However, a media incident that took place today surprised many people because of how outrageous and unbelievable it is.
Marine Cpt. On Thursday, Geoff Ball was tasked with the command of the company that assisted in the evacuation of people from Kabul Airport. His company suffered a major blow in the suicide attack.in a Facebook posts, He wrote down what happened, 20 people in the company were also injured, and how proud he was of his company. This is a very touching post.
My nine marines and sailors gave their lives for the lives of others, and nearly 20 other members of the company were injured by their side. Until that moment, I didn’t believe I would be proud of their efforts, just like the way they dealt with the turbulent crowd and chaos all week, but they proved me wrong. [….]
There is no greater honor for the Marines to be called to save the Americans. Be the last one on the deck because the people who need our help are pulled to a safe place. Lay down one’s life for others. This is what my Marine Corps did. They will always be my heroes.
Eleven marines, an army sergeant and a navy soldier were killed in the attack.
Obviously, ABC thinks this is also a very touching Facebook post. So, according to Paul Szoldra, the editor-in-chief of Task and Purpose and Duffel Blog, they did some incredible things. They stole the post, used Captain Bauer’s name and published it as a column with the title “My fallen Marines will always be my hero: Opinion”. They even created an “author” profile for him on their website. All without his permission.
.@abcnews Without his permission, a “column” by Marine Corps Captain Geoff Ball was published today.
He told me that Bauer wrote in a Facebook post that ABC did not contact him to put his name on his signature. They even created an author profile for him. pic.twitter.com/56TVnIzA4J

Imagine asking a media outlet to do this after everything this person has to go through, especially in the past week.
They later deleted the column, but so far have not commented further on how this happened.

Hey @ABCNewsPR, How does this pass your standards department without anyone—anyone—, “Maybe we should make sure to be cool to the man who just killed nine Marines?”
Or did your opinion desk not implement standard checks? https://t.co/ci4FulRFIa
