What was not discussed in these two responses is how the Democratic Party can move forward without 50 votes? No amount of internet toughness will change the actual dynamics of the Senate. In addition, although there is less discussion, there are also a group of Democrats in the House of Representatives who are destroying profit margins. They need to show that they are moderate before 2022 before they have a chance to be re-elected. These are the representatives who won seats in the House of Representatives in the regions Trump won.

The reality is that the Democrats here do not have any way forward, not including a large-scale compromise with Manchin (and possibly the cinema). Tlaib said that $3.5 trillion is the bottom line, or she said that $0 is the bottom line, because if she and her colleagues go this way, no bill will be passed. But if they don’t take this path, their ultra-left base will resist.
For Republicans, all this sounds good. If the Democrats want to take a hard line on anyone on the surface they need to pass the agenda, let them fight. As far as Manchin is concerned, he has no motive to back down.
