Rachel Levine is America’s first transgender four-star officer, report AdvocateLevin, the current Assistant Secretary of Health in the Biden administration, was selected to lead the 6,000-person U.S. Public Health Service and was sworn in as admiral. The army is a non-combat department of the U.S. Military Uniform Service. It is composed entirely of commissioned officers and is usually required to provide federal support to local authorities that are overwhelmed by public health disasters.
HHS Minister Xavier Becerra said that making Levine an admiral is a proud moment for HHS. “She is a very accomplished pediatrician, and she helps advance the agenda of our institution to promote health accessibility and equity, and strengthen behavioral health,” explained Minister Becerra. “She is a cherished and key partner in our work to build a healthier America.
In response to becoming a four-star officer, Levine said: “This is an important moment. I am humble and happy to take on this role because I can have an impact and the historical nature it symbolizes. May this appointment become many. The first among people because we have created a more inclusive future.”
Levine became the well-known Chief Medical Officer of Pennsylvania in the early days of the Covid pandemic and was nominated by Biden to join his government after winning the 2020 election. Everyone in the U.S. Senate, except a Republican, opposed her nomination, and her new role as a civilian commander in the uniform department was scratching their fucking faces.
