Design and features

set up

The Tribit StormBox portable speaker does not require much setup. If you want, it is equipped with silicone tape/lanyard on the top edge (ours broke when we tried to put it on the bicycle handlebar, but we blamed it on user error, not the manufacturer). You may need to charge it (ours are fully charged). Most likely, you can pair directly.

You can use the power button to turn it on, blink slowly when reconnecting, blink quickly when pairing with Bluetooth, and stay on when connected. You only need to click the Bluetooth pairing button to start pairing with your device.

There is also a 3.5mm auxiliary port, right next to the micro USB charging port, just behind the labeled label.

Performance

The Tribit StormBox speaker is listed as having 20 hours of play time, depending on how you use it. We mainly use it in “XBASS” mode, which seems to consume the battery faster. We determined its time. After listening to the music, using it as a speakerphone and listening to podcasts, all in XBASS mode, it died after 8 hours and 40 minutes.

You can track the battery level by monitoring the four white light bars, which gradually turn off and switch to red once the battery life is less than 10%.

The controls are very simple. There is a multi-function button (large circle) with volume up (+), volume down (-) and large font on the side of the speaker. If you hit the circle twice, you can skip to the next track; skip to the previous track three times.

If you want to increase the bass, you can switch to “XBASS” mode by clicking the button with a white light (below the Bluetooth button) or click it again to turn it off.

The sound quality of the Tribit StormBox is very good, especially for such a small, light, and waterproof (IPX7) speaker. The extra basic mode is cool and will definitely make you feel the difference; for example, if you put your feet on the coffee table next to the speakers, you will actually feel the difference. Of course, it is not as good as having a subwoofer, but for such a small speaker, it is good.

We have paired the Tribit StormBox speaker with two iPhones and a computer via Bluetooth, and a TV via the auxiliary port. The device we tried did not have any problems, although the connection came in and out during storms, and it also seemed more difficult to connect when the battery ran out. Using Bluetooth, you can be a room away from the connected device, but beyond this distance, you will lose the connection.

If you encounter any problems, you can press and hold the volume up and down buttons at the same time for 5 seconds to reset the speaker and delete the previous Bluetooth pairing.

For daily use, you may not encounter any problems, as long as you are not too far away from the paired device and maintain a reasonable charge.

The Tribit Stormbox portable speaker currently scores 4.6 out of 5 stars on Amazon, with more than 7,600 reviews.

what do I like

  • Easy to use
  • Good sound quality

What will i change

  • Longer playing time in XBASS mode

Final thoughts

The Tribit StormBox portable waterproof speaker is compact and easy to use. For portable speakers, the sound quality is good, especially at this price point.
