What are flax biscuits?

Flax biscuits have all the crunchy taste of traditional biscuits, but flaxseed is added to obtain the flavor of multi-grains and add fiber. The carbohydrate content of many of these biscuits is also lower than that of biscuits made with only white flour.

Flax biscuit ingredients

This section explains how to choose the best ingredients for keto flax meal biscuits, the role of each ingredient in the recipe, and alternative options. For measurement, please refer to the recipe card below.

  • Golden Flaxseed Meal – This ground flaxseed has a flour-like texture and forms the bottom of the biscuit. I prefer the more neutral taste of the golden variety, but if you want, you can use brown flaxseed powder instead.
  • Golden flaxseed – Add more texture to the biscuits. You can also use chia seeds, sesame seeds, sunflower seeds, hulled pumpkin seeds or brown flax seeds instead. Or you can skip them altogether and just use flaxseed flour.
  • spices -Salt and pepper, Italian seasoning (Optional), and Garlic powder (Optional). You can substitute equal amounts of your favorite herbs and spices, such as chili powder, rosemary, thyme or onion powder.
  • water – Help activate flaxseed meal and make biscuits stick together.

Frequently asked questions

Are flax biscuits ketones?

Although flax is naturally ketone friendly, not all flaxseed biscuits are ketones because they can contain high carbohydrate ingredients such as white flour. Always check the label to make sure your cookies are keto-friendly. Even better, make them yourself so you know!

Why is it difficult to roll the dough?

Flaxseed flour will create a naturally sticky dough, but placing it between parchment paper will prevent it from sticking to the rolling pin.

Storage instructions

Store salted flax biscuits in an airtight container on the counter for 1-2 weeks.

Can you freeze flax biscuits?

Yes! Make sure the biscuits cool completely, and then store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
