DOther aircraft manufacturer Airbus An order for 255 medium-range jets was received, which is the first major order since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic. The order for the A321neo series machine came from Indigo Partners in the United States, representing four low-cost airlines. As Airbus announced, the relevant personnel signed the order at the Dubai Air Show on Sunday. The order is a clear signal of the recovery of the aviation industry nearly two years after the outbreak of the pandemic.
Airbus sales manager Christian Scherer stated that the four routes of Wizz Air (Hungary), Frontier (U.S.), Volaris (Mexico) and Jetsmart (Chile/Argentina) “have quickly and decisively served in recent months. This groundbreaking order is ready.” At the same time, “the consequences of the pandemic will subside”, and the world hopes to fly again in a more sustainable manner.
Global restrictions on travelers have almost completely paralyzed the international tourism industry of many countries, which has also dealt a heavy blow to airlines and manufacturers. However, given the increasing number of corona vaccinations and the gradual normalization of travel, demand is currently picking up again. The American aircraft manufacturer and Airbus rival Boeing Co. predicted in September that demand will continue to grow over the next two decades.
Airbus did not disclose the value of the order. The aircraft manufacturer issued a price list in 2018, according to which the order was valued at approximately 29 billion euros.
