You heard reporters use rumors that the protection of individual rights is “violating the conservative principle of local autonomy.” This is a route used by several other Republican governors (and so-called brain circle analysts) who continue to make their citizens suffer under the discomfort of arbitrary COVID-19 mitigation measures.
However, DeSantis just tore the reporter into a new one. The governor slammed conservatism as the idea of surrendering to local tyrants, calling it “the United States of America, not the United States School Board or County Committee.” This is just right. The original intention of our republic is not to allow local municipalities to violate the rights of citizens at will.
DeSantis then followed Joe Biden’s federal vaccine authorization, portraying Florida as a protector against unconstitutional orders, and pointed out that there has never been a federal vaccine authorization for civilians before.
