SIVGA Robin (SVO21) Headphone Review

Following mine SIVGA Phoenix Review, I have been looking at the more affordable SIVGA Robin, which is also named after SVO21.

These are more like a pair of mainstream friendly cans, closed in a V-shape with a forward bass and cost less than £150.

Design and fit

I received a black Zebrano model, it is not black, but it has deep stains. In some lighting, it looks like an ordinary, boring dark color, but under the correct lighting, the wood grain will be more obvious.

Judging from the photos, I think Rosewood looks more impressive, and I would say that they are one of the most attractive headphones I have ever seen.

The ear cushions are thick and comfortable, and are completely coated with PU leather (different from the fabric used by Phoenix). The closed design and leather ear cushions make them a little warm when worn for long periods of time.

The headset is comfortable to wear. They feel very lightweight and have a low clamping force on the side of my head. I have a medium-sized head, but my headband is completely retracted. Extending the headband outwards will make these too loose. I think anyone with a small head will think these are a bit big.

As you might expect, the headphone cable is detachable. It looks good quality and uses nylon braided cables instead of plastic, making them more durable and attractive.

Sound quality

Unlike SIVGA Phoenix, these are closed-end headphones, they have a more bass-leaning sound profile, and the overall shape is V-shaped.

Therefore, a track with heavy bass sounds impressive, with heavy bass, but not absolutely. If you are a big bass head, these may not satisfy you, but I think it will attract most buyers.

The midranges feel more hidden to me, but they sound good, with accurate vocals and neutral tones.

Phoenix drops in the treble, and I think these trebles have been well extended.

I did find that some trebles are a bit sharp, and I seem to be too sensitive to this frequency, so I prefer to taper in the treble. This is especially evident in some punk tracks that already have harsh, dirty sounds. When the screaming vocals and some harsher guitar improvisations started, the overall sound was very tiring for me.

The sound field is very small, maybe a little smaller than ordinary closed-end headphones, of course compared with SIVGA Phoenix.

Prices and alternatives

SIVGA Robin can be purchased from Amazon, with a suggested retail price of £149.99. A 10% voucher is also currently offered.

These headphones remind me Meze 99 Neo, I prefer Meze, but they are also expensive by £232. Classics currently sell for around £269, and most people seem to prefer these to Neo.

Audio Technica ATH-M50X headphones are very popular and a good choice. Building materials and aesthetics are less impressive, but they are cheaper.

comprehensive

SIVGA Robin is a good pair of headphones. It looks great. At this price point, its construction quality and aesthetics are better than other headphones.

The sound quality is good, and the V-shaped sound profile sounds very comfortable. Bass accents may not appeal to people who want a neutral sound. To me, extended treble sounds harsh in certain types of music.

I think the pricing is good for these, about 135 pounds, I think it’s hard for you to find something better.

Apart from Phoenix and Robin, I prefer the overall sound of SIVGA Phoenix, but once the price is considered, I think it is difficult to say which is the best.
