set up

The setup of this webcam is almost instant. All you need to do is connect the power cable to the back of the camera and to the USB port on your computer.

It has an adjustable clip that attaches to your laptop screen (like I did) or to your monitor or stand.

I especially like the lens cap, which I keep on whenever the camera isn’t in use.

In my PC settings, I can adjust the camera’s brightness, contrast, or rotation, reset the camera, or disable it.

In the camera privacy settings, I can click on which programs can access my camera.

Although not required, you can also download app on their website. The app helped me when I had a camera glitch and I’ll explain in a minute.

As for the overall setup, I think the WyreStorm FOCUS 210 4K AI webcam is plug-and-play, making it easy to share within the family, as my son and I planned.

Performance

The camera picture is crisp, and the 4K resolution is impressive. With an ultra-wide 120-degree field of view, we can easily stream an entire room while we play Jackbox game Remotely with our families in other states.

Different camera settings can be useful, depending on how you plan to use your webcam.

Our default setting is “Auto Tracking,” which continuously follows the main subject, so if you move around (even a little bit), your camera is constantly moving. It’s weird to have your camera keep moving and refocusing while chatting with friends, but it makes sense if you’re doing a presentation and walking around. Mine defaults to this mode, in order to change this setting I need to download the app.

The camera also has an “auto-framing” mode, which means it zooms in on me and stays locked in position most of the time, although it may zoom in a bit and refocus. It’s less jarring, but my preference is to completely de-track.

With tracking turned off, you can move the camera angle precisely up, down, or left and right; you can also zoom in to the exact location you want. It’s a great option, especially if you like such precious control over the camera and screen appearance.

The caveat is that in order to change tracking or adjust the camera, I need to use the app. In the app I can also enable or disable the microphone and choose the frequency (50hz, 60hz or off).

The sound quality of the microphone is good, with no glitches. Here’s a quick example of video and audio quality.

However, when we first got our hands on the WyreStorm Focus 210 camera, it had a few glitches of its own.

At first, my laptop didn’t recognize the camera. It helps to unplug and plug again, sometimes more than once. A few times, even with the lights on, the camera image was blank in my setup, or the computer didn’t register the camera at all.

It didn’t work initially on Messenger, Zoom and Skype video calls. I need to end the call, go into the app to make sure the camera is working, then go into my computer settings to make sure it registers the presence of the camera, then I can call again and it will work the second time. But it’s a lot to register it .

On my son’s computer, his desktop computer doesn’t recognize the camera at all.

I’ve been using the WyreStorm FOCUS 210 4K AI webcam for a few weeks now and it seems to be working more stably, and I haven’t had to unplug it or quit web chat for over a week. So hopefully those initial glitches have been fixed.

For light, casual use, this camera is a great choice. However, I wouldn’t recommend using this camera for business calls, telehealth appointments, or anything important where you don’t have time to make instant adjustments or risk failure.

what do I like

  • excellent picture quality
  • Lots of adjustment options in the app

what would i change

  • Troubleshoot
  • More accessible controls in camera settings, less toggling between apps and settings

final thoughts

While the sharp and adjustable wide angle is fun to play with, I found the WyreStorm FOCUS 210 4K AI webcam unreliable.
