review – It’s winter, and while I grew up with snow and cold winds, that doesn’t mean I’ll get used to it. I prefer all kinds of jackets because the coats are thick, annoying, and less bulky if you’re going to be indoors. What about a jacket that heats up? Wear Graphene presents the beautiful GAMMA jacket with built-in heater for those cold days when you don’t want to wear a jacket. My cold self had to try it, and even in Georgia we managed to get some decent wind chill in sub-freezing temperatures to really see how versatile it is.

Design and Features
Honestly, when it comes to a heated jacket, I’m very skeptical. Not only do I think I need it to stay warm all the time, but I don’t find it comfortable to wear with the wires and heating pad built in. When I took the Wear Graphene GAMMA heated jacket out of the box, I was impressed and my mind changed. It’s so light that when I opened it up and looked at it, I couldn’t even tell that it had a heating element built in due to the flexibility of the fabric. My initial reaction was very positive.

Their sizes are tailored for men and girls. Using their sizing system, mine is S/M. I always worry about my hips when it comes to unisex sizing, but luckily I don’t have a problem. It’s tighter on the hips than my other jackets, but not uncomfortable. The chest and arm area is loose enough to be worn over a sweater without being uncomfortable. Arms are the right length and the sleeves seem to fit most hand shapes. I have thin hands so it’s a bit loose, but again, not uncomfortable anyway. The hood fits my head and is not loose, which I prefer. The hood doesn’t want to come down when the zipper is all the way up. I get mad when you have a hood that falls off when fully zipped.
When it comes to zippers, the quality of the zippers, sliders and Velcro straps are all very good. The zipper pulled smoothly and the Velcro straps on the wrist tightened even on my tiny wrists.
The Wear Graphene GAMMA Heated Jacket has ten pockets. Two standard zippered pockets near the bottom. There is also a zipped pocket on each side of the chest. The left arm has a small zippered pocket on the shoulder and the right arm has a small zippered pocket near the wrist. Finally, there are four pockets on the inside of the jacket, one of which is for a power bank, which houses a USB accessory.
The GAMMA Heated Jacket requires a power bank to heat the jacket. Unfortunately, they decided not to include a jacket, which simply doesn’t make sense for the cost. Thankfully, I’m a Gadgeteer, so I’m using the Belkin power bank I reviewed a few years ago to power the jacket. It fits perfectly in its pocket and gave me about 50 minutes of powered heat. About half are at the highs and the other half are at the lows.

With the power bank plugged in, press any button that turns the power bank on, then press and hold the button on the inside left side of the jacket. This will turn on the power. When on, you can choose between red, (high) orange, (medium), and green (low). I really like the fact that there are high, medium and low settings options. For most “heated” items, I first choose a high setting to make it heat up quickly, then turn it down when I get too hot. This keeps me comfortable and warm without consuming energy at Mach 3.
As a general jacket, the Wear Graphene GAMMA Heated Jacket works well. No, it’s not designed to stay warm in sub-freezing temperatures, but that’s what the heating aspect is for. Once you turn on the heat, you can tolerate those sub-freezing temperatures better. The arms are the only parts that will still be cool because the heating element isn’t on the arms, but your torso will stay warm. When I started using this jacket, one thing I didn’t think about was how nice it would be to walk around the grocery store or dine at a restaurant. At the grocery store I just turn off the heat and it’s like wearing a nice jacket on a 45-50 degree day, while at the restaurant I can easily take the jacket off (or if it’s cool, let It continues to wear) indoors) without having to deal with a huge coat. This is a definite benefit to me!
what do I like
- Sleek and stylish look.
- Great fit around the torso.
- It keeps you warm!
Areas for improvement
- You need to bring your own charger.
final thoughts
Overall, I am very impressed with the Wear Graphene GAMMA Heated Jacket. It may not protect the best if wind chill is a factor, but it’s also a jacket, not a jacket for extra cold temperatures. A slight wind chill with freezing temperatures is fine for me and the jacket is high. For the price, I wish it came with its own power bank as they are relatively cheap. Wear Graphene’s GAMMA Heated Jacket may hold your wallet back a bit, but it looks and feels great, is versatile and will keep you warm.
