review – When my husband and I got COVID, the first thing we did was buy a large air purifier For our main living area to prevent our son from getting the virus too. It’s hard to say if an air purifier is to be thanked, but our boy never tested positive. When we had a chance to review the Purivortex AC201B Air Purifier, it was a smaller unit. My kid volunteered it in his room both to avoid seasonal allergies and to keep his friends from sharing germs when they visit.

set up
Setup is simple. After removing the packaging, we slid the filter into place.
Then we connect the power cord, plug it in, and press the power button. Like I said, it’s easy.
The Purivortex AC201B Air Purifier is lightweight (2 lbs) and small (5.5 x 5.5 x 8.5 inches) with a small handle for easy portability.
Performance
When you power on, the machine glows yellow and defaults to low speed.
You can press the fan button again to adjust the speed to medium speed, and again to adjust to high speed.
Using the buttons, you can set the timer to 2, 4 or 8 hours; or you can click 2 and 8 for 10 hours, or 4 and 8 for 12 hours.
You can turn the lights on and off with the light button.
To turn off the device, you just need to click the power button again.
After about 3 months of operation, the light will turn blue to remind you to replace the filter. The replacement filter for the Purivortex AC201B air purifier is $16.99 on Purivortex website. To eliminate contaminants and odors, the filter has four layers (nylon, HEPA, carbon and paint filters).
This desktop-sized air purifier is neither terribly loud nor terribly quiet. At top speed I would compare it to a low speed fan, so it will give you a bit of white noise. This can be a distraction if you have a lot of meetings and put them next to you or in a small space. For our purposes, the noise never caused a problem.
It has a range of 160 square feet.We use it on Mason’s bedroom table and he often has a few friends huddled around his computer or hanging in his room watching a movie on the projectorIt’s hard to test how well this actually purifies the air, but I can tell you that Mason is now suffering from respiratory problems, and neither friends he saw this weekend nor anyone in his family were sick. So it’s entirely possible that a four-layer HEPA filter could help him prevent the spread of germs.
Mason also has seasonal allergies, so this would be a good test during allergy season to see if this helps his symptoms.
Also, since he’s been using the Purivortex AC201B air purifier, I’ve noticed his room smells better…if you’re with teenage boys, you know it’s a big win.
